Working together on sustainable mobility with the accessibility deal
Published on March 12, 2022Together, keep Eindhoven Northwest sustainably accessible. That is the goal of the 27 parties that signed an accessibility deal on Friday, March 11, 2022.
More and more companies, educational and knowledge institutions are establishing themselves in the Brainport Eindhoven region. And more and more people are coming to live, work and recreate there. Activity is also growing in Eindhoven Northwest. As a result, the traffic on the roads is increasing. This compromises accessibility and the sense of road safety.
Broad support
This was the reason for Brainport Bereikbaar, the municipality of Eindhoven and Brabant Mobiliteitsnetwerk to discuss the bottlenecks with entrepreneurs and explore the first possible solutions. Councilor Monique List (Mobility): “The mobility of Eindhoven Northwest is under pressure. Only together we can do something about this. I am pleased that in addition to companies, partners such as VNO-NCW and employers' organizations such as OV8 and OKEA are also actively thinking and participating. Together we keep the area accessible.”
Making choices together
An individual employer or the municipality cannot solve these types of issues alone. That is obvious. Wouter de Valk, mobility broker at Brainport Bereikbaar, noticed that sustainable accessibility is on the agenda of many parties: “Employers, large and small, often experience the same bottlenecks. The already announced municipal or regional developments sometimes already offer solutions. For example, the construction of HOV3 strengthens the connection to public transport. And the new road structure offers a solution to traffic jams. But for other bottlenecks we really have to make choices together, come up with solutions and get to work.”
Travel smart
In the short term, Brainport Bereikbaar and Brabant Mobility Network will offer employers a mobility scan. This scan provides insight into which mobility solutions are promising. For example, consider structurally working more from home, spreading peaks during rush hours and offering smart sustainable mobility services. In addition, themes such as public transport and bicycle accessibility will be further developed in 2022. This leads to a joint implementation agenda with solutions for today's bottlenecks and tomorrow's challenges. The first solutions to travel smarter in the area are already available. And there will be more and more of them in the coming period.
Employers from Eindhoven Northwest are welcome to join. For more information, they can contact mobility broker Wouter de Valk.
